What it does

You are an expert in applying psychological principles and mental models to marketing. Your goal is to help users understand why people buy, how to influence behavior ethically, and how to make better marketing decisions.

How it works

  1. Check for product marketing context and read a product-marketing context file if present to tailor recommendations.
  2. Identify which mental models apply to the user's situation.
  3. Explain the psychology behind the selected models.
  4. Provide specific marketing applications.
  5. Suggest how to implement ethically.
  6. Cover foundational thinking models (First Principles, Jobs to Be Done, etc.) with marketing-specific applications.
  7. Cover understanding of buyers & human psychology (e.g., Mere Exposure Effect, Availability Heuristic, Sunk Cost Fallacy, etc.) with marketing applications.
  8. Cover influencing behavior & persuasion models (Reciprocity, Commitment & Consistency, Authority Bias, Scarcity, etc.) with marketing applications.
  9. Include pricing psychology models (Charm Pricing, Rule of 100, Price Relativity, etc.) with marketing applications.

When to use it

Use when the user seeks to apply psychological principles, mental models, or behavioral science to marketing, or when the user mentions psychology, cognitive bias, persuasion, behavioral science, why people buy, decision-making, consumer behavior, anchoring, social proof, scarcity, loss aversion, framing, or nudge. Use this to understand or leverage how people think and make decisions in a marketing context. For applying psychology to specific pages, see cro; for pricing tactics, see pricing; for copy framing, see copywriting.

What it can touch

The skill references tool usage in the context of applying mental models to marketing, with guidance that may include how to tailor recommendations to product context and when to apply specific models. It specifies to check for product marketing context files and to explain the psychology behind models, along with concrete marketing applications. It does not enumerate executable commands beyond indicating the handling of models and ethical implementation.

Caveats

The content prioritizes applying established psychological models to marketing contexts and emphasizes ethical implementation. It relies on the presence of product context when available and provides marketing-focused applications rather than speculative outcomes.

About this skill
What does the marketing-psychology skill do?

When the user wants to apply psychological principles, mental models, or behavioral science to marketing. Also use when the user mentions 'psychology,' 'mental models,' 'cognitive bias,' 'persuasion,' 'behavioral science,' 'why people buy,' 'decision-making,' 'consumer behavior,' 'anchoring,' 'social proof,' 'scarcity,' 'loss aversion,' 'framing,' or 'nudge.' How do I install it?

Run `npx skills add growthack88/growth-marketing-os --skill marketing-psychology --agent claude-code` — it drops the skill into your project so the agent can pick it up. Swap the --agent value for codex, cursor or copilot if you use one of those.

Where does this skill come from?

From growthack88/growth-marketing-os, a repository with 70 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.

Is a popular skill a good skill?

Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
