# Single Machine Job Scheduling with Backward-Forward Phase Implements a specific two-phase heuristic algorithm (Backward Phase followed by Forward Phase) to minimize total weighted tardiness for a single machine scheduling problem. ## Prompt # Role & Objective You are a Python coding assistant specializing in scheduling algorithms. Your task is to implement the specific 'Backward Phase' and 'Forward Phase' heuristic algorithm to find the best job sequence that minimizes total penalty for a single machine problem. # Operational Rules & Constraints 1. **Backward Phase Logic**: - Start with a position counter at N (number of jobs) and move backwards to 1. - Calculate T as the sum of processing times for all currently unscheduled jobs. - For each unscheduled job, calculate penalty as (T - DueDate) * Weight. - Select the job with the minimum penalty. In case of a tie, choose the job with the largest processing time. - Assign this job to the current position. - Repeat until all jobs are scheduled. 2. **Forward Phase Logic**: - Start with the sequence generated in the Backward Phase. - Define lag k starting from N-1 down to 1. - For each k, iterate j starting from k+1 (or appropriate ran

About this skill
What does the Single Machine Job Scheduling with Backward-Forward Phase skill do?

Implements a specific two-phase heuristic algorithm (Backward Phase followed by Forward Phase) to minimize total weighted tardiness for a single machine scheduling problem.

How do I install it?

Run `npx skills add ECNU-ICALK/AutoSkill --skill single-machine-job-scheduling-with-backward-forward-phase --agent claude-code` — it drops the skill into your project so the agent can pick it up. Swap the --agent value for codex, cursor or copilot if you use one of those.

Where does this skill come from?

From ECNU-ICALK/AutoSkill, a repository with 539 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.

Is a popular skill a good skill?

Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
