What it does

Executes the annual panel review cycle and ongoing governance decisions. Synthesises scorecard data, billing compliance, and step-out patterns into per-firm recommendations (Retain, Watch, Improvement Plan, or Exit Review). Produces a firm exit pack with formal exit notice and transition plan, plus an internal exit record. Identifies gaps and produces a Coverage Gap Report with remediation options. Produces a Panel Refresh Brief as input to the RFP process.

How it works

  • Organises inputs from data sources (Scorecard results, Billing compliance, Step-out logs, Matter allocation records).
  • Generates a Panel Health Report with per-firm assessments and a Panel-level findings section, following the template guidance. Per-firm rows include Firm, Practice area, Tier, Scorecard result, Billing compliance, Step-out matters, Prior improvement plan, and Recommended action.
  • Produces a GC Panel Review Note summarising composition, health, and recommended actions, with clear next steps by action type (Retain, Watch, Improvement Plan, Exit Review).
  • When exit is triggered, runs Mode 2 to produce a Firm Exit Notice and Transition Plan (external document with a deliberate gate placeholder [Firm]) and an Internal Exit Record (using the firm’s actual name).
  • Outputs a Coverage Gap Analysis highlighting practice area, geography, or tier gaps and remediation options, and a Panel Refresh Brief to scope new or refreshed candidates for the panel.

When to use it

Trigger phrases include: 'review our panel', 'annual panel review', 'is our panel working', 'which firms should we exit', 'write the exit notice', 'coverage gap', 'we don’t have anyone for restructuring', 'refresh the panel', 'panel rationalisation', 'too many firms', 'step-out problem', 'do we have the right firms'. These modes map to Panel Health Assessment (Mode 1), Firm Exit Management (Mode 2), Coverage Gap Analysis (Mode 3), and Panel Refresh Brief (Mode 4).

What it can touch

  • Data sources: Scorecard results (Skill 7), Billing compliance records (Skill 6), Step-out logs, Matter allocation records.
  • Documents: Panel Health Report, GC Panel Review Note, Firm Exit Notice and Transition Plan, Internal Exit Record, Coverage Gap Report, Panel Refresh Brief.

Caveats

  • Does not design the original panel structure or run the RFP; uses cross-skill references for those tasks.
  • Data gaps may appear in per-firm cells; placeholders [Data gap] should be used as described in the templates.
  • Exits require external review/approval per template; final dispatch must consider governance requirements.

Where does this skill come from?

From lawve-ai/awesome-legal-skills, a repository with 618 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.

Is a popular skill a good skill?

Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
