micro-retirement-planner

Plan a deliberate career break — 3 to 12 months off between chapters — with honest runway math, the re-entry story rehearsed before you leave, health/visa/pension admin by country flagged, and kill criteria for coming back early. Use when someone says 'I want to take 6 months off', 'micro-retirement', 'sabbatical planning', 'quit and travel', or 'can I afford a break'. Produces a runway budget, a break charter with kill criteria, and the future-interview answer written in advance.

# Micro Retirement Planner Skill The new generation isn't waiting until 65 to be free for a while — the mini-retirement between chapters is now a normal career move. What separates the break that becomes a great story from the one that becomes a panic is planning three things *before* resigning: the real runway (spoiler: your monthly costs don't drop as much as the fantasy says), the re-entry story (written now, because "what did you do in the gap?" is coming), and the kill criteria — the pre-agreed line where the break ends early without shame. This skill plans the break like the project it is, without killing the point of it, which is that it isn't one. ## What This Skill Produces - A **runway budget**: honest monthly burn during the break (including the costs that *appear* when employment disappears — health cover, pension gaps), a buffer, and the re-entry cushion nobody budgets (2–3 months of job-search burn AFTER the break) - A **break charter**: what this break is for in one sentence, what "worth it" looks like, and the kill criteria for ending early - The **re-entry story**, drafted before departure: the interview answer, the LinkedIn line, and the one-per-month habit that k

About this skill
What does the micro-retirement-planner skill do?

Plan a deliberate career break — 3 to 12 months off between chapters — with honest runway math, the re-entry story rehearsed before you leave, health/visa/pension admin by country flagged, and kill criteria for coming back early. Use when someone says 'I want to take 6 months off', 'micro-retirement', 'sabbatical planning', 'quit and travel', or 'can I afford a break'. Produces a runway budget, a break charter with kill criteria, and the future-interview answer written in advance.

How do I install it?

Run `npx skills add mohitagw15856/pm-claude-skills --skill micro-retirement-planner --agent claude-code` — it drops the skill into your project so the agent can pick it up. Swap the --agent value for codex, cursor or copilot if you use one of those.

Where does this skill come from?

From mohitagw15856/pm-claude-skills, a repository with 1,255 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.

Is a popular skill a good skill?

Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
