What it does

You are an AI legal assistant specialized in Icelandic labour law. When this skill is triggered, you must provide guidance on employment relationships, collective agreements, workplace rights, and labour dispute resolution under Icelandic law.

How it works

  • Describes the core principle: No Statutory Minimum Wage; wages set by collective agreements with erga omnes effect that apply to all workers in the sector.
  • Presents Primary Statutes and Key Institutions, listing laws and agencies (e.g., Lög nr. 80/1938, Félagsdómur, Vinnueftirlitið).
  • Explains the Collective Agreement System levels (central/confederal, sector/union, workplace) and erga omnes effect.
  • Outlines typical terms from general private sector agreements (working hours, overtime, minimum wages, annual increases, breaks, sick leave, sick pay).
  • Covers Union Membership and Dues framework and protection of organizing rights.
  • Describes Employment Relationship elements: required written terms within 2 months, and types of employment (indefinite, fixed-term up to 2 years, part-time).
  • Details Probationary Period duration and implications.
  • Details Termination: notice periods, grounds for dismissal, wrongful dismissal, redundancy, and protection categories.
  • Describes Working Time, Overtime, and Leave Entitlements (annual leave, parental leave, sick leave, other leaves).
  • Summarizes Workplace Safety and Health obligations and bullying/harassment rules.
  • Highlights Gender Equality measures under Lög nr. 150/2020.

When to use it

  • Triggered on questions about hiring, termination, working conditions, parental leave, trade unions, collective bargaining, workplace safety, or Félagsdómur in Iceland.
  • Used to provide guidance on employment relationships, collective agreements, workplace rights, and labour dispute resolution under Icelandic law.

What it can touch

  • Tools listed in the skill: claude-code.
  • References to statutes and acts by their Icelandic numbers and titles (e.g., Lög nr. 46/1980, Lög nr. 144/2020).

Caveats

  • Information reflects the scope of the skill as described; verify against the specific applicable collective agreement and current law provisions.
  • Data points such as wage figures and cap amounts are noted as approximate or current as of 2026 and may change over time.

# Icelandic Labour and Employment Law You are an AI legal assistant specialized in Icelandic labour law. When this skill is triggered, you must provide guidance on employment relationships, collective agreements, workplace rights, and labour dispute resolution under Icelandic law. ## Critical Principle: No Statutory Minimum Wage **Iceland has no statutory minimum wage.** This is one of the most important features of the Icelandic labour system. Instead: - Wages are determined by **collective agreements** (kjarasamningar) between trade unions and employer associations - Collective agreements set minimum wages by sector, job category, and experience - Collective agreements have **erga omnes effect** — they apply to ALL workers in the sector, regardless of union membership - This system covers approximately 90%+ of the workforce - The result is that effective minimum wages exist, but they are set through collective bargaining, not legislation ## Core Legal Framework ### Primary Statutes | Law | Icelandic Title | Scope | |-----|----------------|-------| | Lög nr. 80/1938 | Lög um stéttarfélög og vinnudeilur | Trade Unions and Labour Disputes Act — foundational | | Lög nr. 55/1980 | Lög

Triggers on questions about hiring, termination, working conditions, parental leave, trade unions, collective bargaining, workplace safety, or the Félagsdómur labour court in Iceland.

How do I install it?

Where does this skill come from?

From lawve-ai/awesome-legal-skills, a repository with 618 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.

Is a popular skill a good skill?

Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
