Review

What it does

Analyzes events through a futures lens, applying scenario planning, trend analysis, weak signals, drivers of change, and forecasting methods to provide insights on possible futures, emerging trends, disruptive forces, strategic foresight, and alternative scenarios. It guides strategic planning, technology assessment, long-term planning, and navigation of uncertainty.

How it works

The skill outlines multiple frameworks and methods for futures analysis:

  • Three Horizons Framework: interprets present, transition, and future systems to inform strategic choices.
  • Scenario Planning: identifies focal issues, driving forces, critical uncertainties, develops 2-4 scenario logics, fleshes out narratives, and derives implications and options across scenarios.
  • Drivers of Change (STEEP/PESTLE): scans Social, Technological, Economic, Environmental, Political/Legal, and optional Ethical domains to assess trends, interactions, and implications for focal questions.
  • Weak Signals and Wild Cards: identifies early indicators and low-probability, high-impact events, proposes contingency plans and resilience.
  • Forecasting Methods: uses Exploratory forecasting (project present forward), Normative/backcasting (start from desired future), Delphi method (expert consensus), Trend extrapolation, and Cross-impact analysis to inform planning.
  • Core Analytical Frameworks: FUTURES Cone, Trend Analysis, Causal Layered Analysis, Wind Tunneling, Horizon Scanning.
  • Methodological Approaches: Scenario Development Workshop, Backcasting, Delphi Method with structured phases and outputs such as robust, hedging, shaping, and adaptive strategies. Each section provides steps, roles, and outputs used to formulate strategic insights and action plans across uncertain futures.

When to use it

Use for Strategic Planning, Trend Analysis, Technology Assessment, Risk Anticipation, Scenario Planning, Innovation Strategy, Policy Development, and Disruption Analysis when navigating uncertainty and exploring multiple futures.

What it can touch

Includes tools and methodologies such as Scenario Planning steps, Backcasting, Delphi Method, Trend Analysis, and Horizon Scanning. For execution, it references tools like signal tracking, expert networks, AI-assisted monitoring, and workshops.

Caveats

Stresses that scenarios are explorations, not predictions; forecasts carry uncertainty and are probabilistic. The skill emphasizes robust strategies that work across scenarios and does not claim guaranteed outcomes. It requires careful interpretation of qualitative and quantitative inputs and acknowledges potential limitations of expert consensus and assumptions in backcasting and scenario logic.

# Futurist Analyst Skill ## Purpose Analyze events through the disciplinary lens of futures studies and strategic foresight, applying established forecasting frameworks (scenario planning, trend analysis, horizon scanning), anticipatory methods, and systems thinking to understand emerging trends, identify drivers of change, envision alternative futures, and develop strategic responses to uncertainty. ## When to Use This Skill - **Strategic Planning**: Long-term planning under uncertainty - **Trend Analysis**: Identifying emerging patterns and their implications - **Technology Assessment**: Evaluating potential impacts of new technologies - **Risk Anticipation**: Identifying emerging threats and opportunities - **Scenario Planning**: Exploring multiple possible futures - **Innovation Strategy**: Understanding future markets and needs - **Policy Development**: Forward-looking policy design - **Disruption Analysis**: Identifying potential paradigm shifts ## Core Philosophy: Futures Thinking Futures analysis rests on fundamental principles: **The Future is Not Predetermined**: Multiple futures are possible. Choices and actions shape which future emerges. **The Future Cannot Be Predicte

About this skill
What does the futurist-analyst skill do?

Analyzes events through futures lens using scenario planning, trend analysis, weak signals, drivers of change, and forecasting methods (exploratory, normative, backcasting). Provides insights on possible futures, emerging trends, disruptive forces, strategic foresight, and alternative scenarios. Use when: Strategic planning, emerging trends, technology assessment, long-term planning, uncertainty navigation.

How do I install it?

Run `npx skills add majiayu000/claude-skill-registry --skill futurist-analyst --agent claude-code` — it drops the skill into your project so the agent can pick it up. Swap the --agent value for codex, cursor or copilot if you use one of those.

Where does this skill come from?

From majiayu000/claude-skill-registry, a repository with 534 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.

Is a popular skill a good skill?

Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
