What it does

Cross-border-ecommerce serves as an expansion advisor for international e-commerce. It scores target markets across eight weighted dimensions, compares multiple fulfillment models with cost and transit data, provides country-specific tax and duty guides, maps local payment methods by market, and constructs a phased expansion roadmap. It supports guidance for EU VAT/IOSS, UK VAT, US sales tax, CA GST, AU GST, and JP consumption tax, and connects to market-specific execution skills. It includes a framework for landed cost and localization considerations, plus an expansion readiness assessment and KPI setup. The skill emphasizes identifying where to expand, how to enter, and what it costs, then directs users to specialized execution skills for each market.

How it works

Step 1: Collect information from the user’s initial message, including product/category, current platforms/markets, current revenue, target markets, and constraints. Step 2: Ask one follow-up with all remaining questions using a multi-part, multiple-choice format to fill gaps across seven prompts (business stage, current markets, target markets, product type, fulfillment setup, international budget, key numbers, biggest concern). Step 3: Score target markets using the Market Selection Matrix across eight dimensions, compute a weighted composite score, and rank markets, recommending the top 2–3. Step 4: Assess expansion readiness against prerequisites such as profitability, capacity for volume, budget availability, operational bandwidth, sellability of product in target markets, and landed cost understanding. Step 5: Deep-dive the top 2–3 markets with tax/duty requirements, recommended fulfillment model with cost estimates, payment setup, localization needs, competitive landscape, and risk factors. Step 6: Build a phased expansion roadmap with milestones, KPIs, and decision points. Step 7: Define KPIs and a tracking plan per market.

When to use it

Used when planning international e-commerce expansion and prioritizing new markets, fulfillment approaches, tax/duty considerations, and payment strategies. Triggered by user prompts about expanding to new countries, evaluating markets, or needing a structured roadmap.

What it can touch

  • Target market scoring on 8 dimensions with composite ranking
  • Fulfillment model comparison (direct ship, 3PL, FBA/FBT/WFS, dropship, consolidation) with cost and transit data
  • Country-by-country tax and duty compliance guides (EU, UK, US, CA, AU, JP, and more)
  • Local payment method mapping by market with adoption rates
  • Currency display and FX risk management strategy
  • Localization checklist (language, currency, units, SEO, cultural adaptation)
  • Landed cost calculator framework with margin impact analysis
  • Legal and IP protection requirements by market (trademarks, certifications, data privacy)
  • Expansion readiness assessment and a phased expansion roadmap
  • Cross-skill linking to market-specific execution skills

Caveats

  • No API key required for usage
  • Provides guidelines and frameworks; specific tax/regulatory interpretation should be validated with local tax advisors
  • Details are drawn from market data included in the skill content; for up-to-date rates consult official sources

How do I install it?

Run `npx skills add nexscope-ai/eCommerce-Skills --skill cross-border-ecommerce --agent claude-code` — it drops the skill into your project so the agent can pick it up. Swap the --agent value for codex, cursor or copilot if you use one of those.

Where does this skill come from?

From nexscope-ai/eCommerce-Skills, a repository with 580 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.

Is a popular skill a good skill?

Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
