azure-language-service
Expert knowledge for Azure AI Language development including troubleshooting, best practices, decision making, architecture & design patterns, limits & quotas, security, configuration, integrations & coding patterns, and deployment. Use when building CLU, custom NER, sentiment, PII redaction, or conversational question answering solutions, and other Azure AI Language related development tasks. Not for Azure AI Search (use azure-cognitive-search), Azure AI Speech (use azure-speech), Azure Translator (use azure-translator), Azure AI Immersive Reader (use azure-immersive-reader).
npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-language-service --agent claude-code
Same command for any agent — swap --agent for codex, cursor, copilot.
Weekly change comes from our own snapshots, not the repository page — it measures attention, not adoption.
What it does
The skill provides expert guidance for Azure AI Language, covering troubleshooting, best practices, decision making, architecture & design patterns, limits & quotas, security, configuration, integrations & coding patterns, and deployment. It is intended for building CLU, custom NER, sentiment, PII redaction, or conversational question answering solutions, and other Azure AI Language related development tasks.
How it works
- It requires network access and uses documentation-fetching tools to retrieve current content.
- Operators should use the Category Index to locate relevant sections, reading specific files or line ranges via read_file as instructed by the agent guidance. When categories specify line ranges (e.g., L35-L120), read the indicated lines; when categories reference linked files (e.g., security.md), read that linked reference.
- The agent should fetch documentation content using the preferred mcp_microsoftdocs:microsoft_docs_fetch tool with query from=learn-agent-skill, or fallback to fetch_webpage with query from=learn-agent-skill&accept=text/markdown.
- If metadata.generated_at is more than 3 months old, suggest pulling the latest version from the repository. If the mcp_microsoftdocs tools are unavailable, suggest installing them via Installation Guide link.
When to use it
Use when working on Azure Language features such as CLU, custom NER, PII redaction, sentiment analysis, or conversational question answering, and related deployment and security considerations. Not for Azure AI Search, Azure AI Speech, Azure Translator, or Azure AI Immersive Reader.
What it can touch
- Integrations & Coding Patterns: APIs/SDKs for NER, entity linking, key phrases, sentiment, language detection, health, custom Q&A/CLU, PII redaction, async patterns, and Power Automate integration.
- Requires network access and fetching capabilities to retrieve documentation content.
Caveats
- License: CC-BY-4.0.
- Requires network access and uses mcp_microsoftdocs:microsoft_docs_fetch or fetch_webpage to retrieve documentation.
- Category is Security.

What does the azure-language-service skill do?
Expert knowledge for Azure AI Language development including troubleshooting, best practices, decision making, architecture & design patterns, limits & quotas, security, configuration, integrations & coding patterns, and deployment. Use when building CLU, custom NER, sentiment, PII redaction, or conversational question answering solutions, and other Azure AI Language related development tasks. Not for Azure AI Search (use azure-cognitive-search), Azure AI Speech (use azure-speech), Azure Translator (use azure-translator), Azure AI Immersive Reader (use azure-immersive-reader).
How do I install it?
Run `npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-language-service --agent claude-code` — it drops the skill into your project so the agent can pick it up. Swap the --agent value for codex, cursor or copilot if you use one of those.
Where does this skill come from?
From MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills, a repository with 682 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.
Is a popular skill a good skill?
Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
