# Advanced Materials Writing Style (advmat-writing-style) ## When to trigger - Prose is wordy, hedged, or dense with un-glossed jargon - Materials nomenclature, chemical formulae, or units are inconsistent - A reader from a neighboring materials subfield would stumble on the opening - The draft narrates the experiment chronologically instead of arguing the advance - You are in late polish, after the science, characterization, and figures are stable ## Wiley / Adv. Mater. house-style essentials - **Concision serves impact.** Adv. Mater. prizes a crisp, high-signal narrative; every sentence should advance the structure → property → function argument. - **Argue, don't log.** Write "the doping raises carrier density, which lifts conductivity to X" — not "first we synthesized, then we measured, then we observed." - **Nomenclature discipline.** Define every abbreviation and material acronym on first use; keep chemical formulae, phase labels, and sample names identical across text, figures, and SI. - **Units and numbers.** SI units throughout, consistent significant figures, a space between number and unit, and every headline metric with its uncertainty and measurement conditions. - **Bri

About this skill
What does the advmat-writing-style skill do?

Use when polishing the prose of an Advanced Materials manuscript for Wiley house style, concision, precise materials nomenclature and units, and readability across materials subfields. Polishes language; does not restructure the advance or manage the length budget.

How do I install it?

Run `npx skills add brycewang-stanford/Awesome-Journal-Skills --skill advmat-writing-style --agent claude-code` — it drops the skill into your project so the agent can pick it up. Swap the --agent value for codex, cursor or copilot if you use one of those.

Where does this skill come from?

From brycewang-stanford/Awesome-Journal-Skills, a repository with 909 stars. We read it straight from the repository tree rather than a submitted listing, so what you see here is what is actually published.

Is a popular skill a good skill?

Not necessarily. Stars measure attention, not adoption — a repository can trend for a week and be abandoned. That is why we show the weekly change from our own snapshots next to the total, instead of a single flattering number.
