What it is

ReadAny is a local-first AI e-book reader for desktop and mobile that enables AI-powered chat about books, semantic search, highlights, notes, TTS, and WebDAV sync. It supports local embeddings and a local vector store to keep data offline-capable. It aims to connect OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, Ollama, DeepSeek, or custom providers for AI features.

How it works

The project relies on a multi-layer stack: Desktop using Tauri 2 (Rust) with React and TypeScript frontend, Mobile via Expo (React Native) plus Tauri Mobile, and a local SQLite database for storage. It uses LangChain.js and related tooling for AI orchestration and embeddings, with a local vector store to support semantic search and RAG-based chat. It offers cross-device synchronization through WebDAV.
